An emerging golf apparel brand needed a logo that would represent its essence well. The target audience “would not be the stereotypical country club golfer. More of the local public course golfer”. The owner wanted to blend outdoors and wilderness themes with golf, and already had an idea he liked in a form of an illustration: a bear holding a golf flag.
My goal was to create a simplified version of the illustration that would be suitable for embroidering and printing on clothes.
I started by making some sketches of the future logo and discussing them with the client.
We decided to also try a seated version of the bear, and I rendered the first rough vector draft based on this sketch.
After several rounds of revisions the logo was refined and a handwritten-style typeface was added for the logotype.
On the last stage we explored several suitable color palettes to find one that fitted the brand best. Based on it, the final version of the logo was created.
A friendly bear resting at the golf flag became a nice representation of the brand. Subtle details, like blue nose, added charm and made him more fun and recognizable.
